My 13 year-old son and his friends spend a lot of time on Siesta Key. They’ll start off at the beach then head to the village for a sub sandwich or better yet, a bag of Meaney’s Mini Donuts. My son loves donuts and says Meaney’s are his absolute favorite – even better than Pubix glazed donuts.
I headed out to Siesta to see what all the fuss was about. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!
Meaney’s is located in Siesta Key village, in the former Village Coin Laundry building at the corner of Canal and Ocean. It’s the second mini donut store for owners Vince and Karen Meaney. Their first store, at the Red Barn Flea Market, has been open for about four years and the Siesta location for a year and a half.
Meaney’s mini donuts are made to order. They’re served hot and covered with a topping of your choice – powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, strawberry cheesecake, peanut butter cup or Bavarian cream. You can eat them straight away, or if you must, save them for later. A few seconds in the microwave and they’re delish.
I bought a bag of classic mini donuts with powdered sugar and ate them on the way home while still warm. They were crispy on the outside, light and flakey on the inside. Just perfect!
If for some reason donuts aren’t your thing (gasp!) Meaney’s also sells coffee, soda, lemonade, hot dogs and soft serve ice cream. They’re open daily from 8am-9pm, with expanded hours during season. Don’t be surprised if you see people lining up for these wonderful mini donuts, it happens all the time!
(thanks to Lindsey Meaney for taking time to answer my questions!)
